I'm hijacking this thread, because I did some Fritz-related shopping myself recently and would like to share the picture.
Greetings to all you dog-owners out there, and to your four-legged friends!

In my humble opinion, you've made the right decision. Get out of your comfort zone and go see the world as long as you are healthy enough to do so. Glad that you had a great trip.

I've been on vacation in British Columbia and Alberta once, and I can only say that the landscape is absolutely stunning. Also the flora and fauna, which includes whales, otters, ospreys, bears...  :o )

I was born in 1972, but even when I was a child, I could watch some of those shows on TV. I remember Bonanza and Gunsmoke. I also know The Virginian, High Chapparal and Kung Fu, but I think I saw those later, when I was a young adult.

Do The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie count as Westerns, too? I saw those as a kid as well.

Just in case you don't check MMSA on a regular basis: The second chapter is available, and it features some more members of the Spartans.

Check it out if you liked the first part.

I'm glad Fritz is fine and can spend many more years being pampered and loved.

We all make mistakes all the time. I'm sure you do your best to take great care of Fritz and give him a fantastic dog life, Stevie.

I've read that there are parts of the US where the weather conditions are really dangerous, and where there is no electricity.

I really hope you are all okay, and that being stuck indoors due to poor road conditions is the worst that happens.

Happy holidays, everyone!

Story Discussion / Re: Story recommendation

BB is one of my favourite authors, and I enjoyed his latest story immensely, too.

Some of his stories are a bit dark, but not this one. His depiction of the Dad's weaknesses and his surprise that he himself has to grow up to become a real father to his teenage son is light-hearted but still warm and meaningful.

Totally agree. If you are looking for a quick spanking scene, you won't be satisfied here. But if stories with lots of emotional impact fascinate you, and ones who delve deep into the protagonists thoughts and feelings, don't miss this.

I have a hard time following my own advice, but here goes:

Do what you like and don't think too much about what readers may think. Maybe the story doesn' t attract masses of readers or recomendations. Or  maybe people discover or rediscover your series and become fans.

So, just go for it!

Free Discussion / Re: Story title translation into English
« on: May 31, 2022, 07:05:43 am »
Thank you for this idea, db, but Kat is right. I chose "Bellwether" as a title for the story where Chris, the black sheep of the family refuses to submit to his father's CP.  The young sheep refuses to follow the bellwether, and the father has to find a way to  reinstate his authority.

This time it is about the son making a decision (the dad, too, but the main point is the son's dilemma). So maybe "Hammelsprung" isn't perfect, because it refers to a grown up sheep, but I still like the idea of choosing one door and walking through it, thereby making it known to the public.

You are too quick for me today: While you posted, I edited my earlier post and added your suggestions from the chat today.

Still not convinced by the Lamb Stew, but thanks for the alternative that sounds a bit less dark.

How about "Separating the Sheep from the Goats"?
I thought about that one, and it would be a good title. What made me decide against it is that it implies that one option is clearly the good one and the other one the bad one, and that isn't the case. (Sorry I can't be more specific, but as I said I don't want to say too much about the content)

Or "Lamb Stew"?
Wow, that is a bit too dark for my liking.

In keeping with the sheep theme, there is "A Woolly Situation"; "Sheared"; or "Fleeced".

One of my stories is called A White and Woolly Winter Chill, so the Wolly Situation might be a bit repetetive. I like Fleeced for a future story, but maybe not for this one.

Thank you for your suggestions, too, Kat! Oh, and to complete the list, you also suggeested the following titles in the chat today:
"Ram-rodded", (which I had to look up in the dictionary), "Ram-ifications" and "Horns of a Dilemma" The last one I was also unfamiliar with, and now that I looked it up seems like a great fit for the story.

It's awesome how much ideas can be gathered if several people are brainstorming. And then, of course there are a lot of words or idioms I'm not as familiar with as you native speakers, so it's a great help to get input from all of you.
