Anecdotes / Re: August '18 Spanking Report
« on: August 16, 2018, 07:39:22 am »
Wow, busy month so far! So Jake was spanked with the other boys in the room? Who are his roommates and how did they react?

Poor Larry must have been frustrated. I'm glad none of the boys were annoyed that he had let the grown-ups know that he was upset. How did the apologies go?

Updates 2025 / Re: Van Wells
« on: August 08, 2018, 05:54:05 am »
Glad to hear Mickey is getting go spend some time with Van! I remember that when Van was younger, their special relationship seemed to (understandably) be a bit more important to Mickey than it was to Van (who is/was also close to other older brothers like Noah). Has their relationship grown more significant to Van now, especially now that he's older?

Your current crop of college boys are my favorites - everyone from Daniel (although he's graduated) to Bryce will always be of interest to me. I think that's mostly because we all saw them grow up through the forum. You also have a lot of full-length stories about these boys.

As you used to say in the old forum, Josh is a "Skater Good Boy", yes? He and Mickey, although Mickey was often late.

That's so interesting! Good for him! You know, I began teaching the summer after my high school graduation under similar circumstances. :) I hope he has fun!

Ooh, I like the list. Also, because I haven't seen it discussed here before - Sky High is a good choice. That was a surprisingly fun movie. I expect that some of the older kids may have seen it before already, but that's all well and good. There's something to be said for nostalgia, after all.

Sounds like it was a beautiful wedding! That's another one of yours married, Jack. :) More grandkids to come next!

Sorry, but you said Bobby had dedicated "He Didn't Have to Be" to you before? But Bobby isn't married yet, right?

Hey, Jack, I wonder if you would have enough space to set up a mini-Clip n' Climb in part of the place. My cousin was just telling me that one just opened in the Vancouver area, and people enjoy it a lot. Might be more insurance though, but I thought I'd drop you a message about it anyway. :)

So just to clarify - he made an offer on the third house?

Glad you're helping him settle in, Jack!

That's so sweet! Congratulations, Jack. :)

Was anyone able to save the "Adult Adoption" thread from the old forum? That was one of my favorite posts, especially the part where one of your kids (JD?) changes his mind, calls you back, and asks to be adopted, too, in spite of all the paperwork needed with the military.

Do Ryan and Jake call you Dad? If not, do you think they'll start doing so?

Maybe starting Ralph out in the undisciplined middle school class is a good idea. I've seen students get discouraged because the reading material is above their level. It's also much better to "upgrade" Ralph to the higher level class later on than to "downgrade" him.

I've made a few mistakes before by not placing kids in an environment where they can succeed. Things like that can really de-motivate kids easily.

I also agree with Zyngaru about Ralph possibly getting embarrassed if he doesn't do as well as the younger kids.

Still, I don't know Ralph or the specifics of the situation, so I may not be the best judge. You just do what you think is best, Jack. :) I'm so glad your students have been improving so much under your care!

(By the way, this is out of place, but I read the old post (the first post in this thread) about you chatting with Marcus in the lockerroom, and I wondered: Do the BCA students know that Marcus is your son?)

Those sound fun! What projects do the boys have to complete this summer to join the movie-watching? :)

My grandfather was a worrywart, so the needle never went lower than just past the halfway mark for him.

Introductions and FAQs / Re: Homework Folders
« on: May 27, 2018, 09:00:50 am »
We did talk about this, Jack, although for some reason, I thought we did it in this forum and not the old one.

I don't think I mentioned this before, but after you explained what exactly the homework folders were, I realized that the concept wasn't really new to me. During my grade school years, each student was required to have a homework notebook. There were three columns - one for date assigned, one for the instructions, and (I think) one for the submission date.

I remember some teachers would print out the instructions and have the students paste them onto the notebooks. As we got older, teachers would get less strict about the homework notebooks until they would eventually become optional notebooks in late elementary school or in high school (can't remember which).

It's a good habit for kids to develop. Noting down my homework in a journal saved me multiple times during my college years.

Teaching / Re: Teaching 2018/19

I empathize, Jack, as I have a similar problem right now. I'm currently teaching reading and writing classes for reluctant readers, but I'll be teaching advanced classes starting next month. My head is filled with half-developed book lists, lesson plans, and activities. I've been trying to juggle interest levels, reading levels, and specific interests for a while now. It's challenging but it's a whole lot of fun, too.

You can't go wrong with starting out a bit easy though.

This sounds fun! I think you'll have a much more eventful time with the College boys starting next year. Aren't Noah, Barry, and Mickey all graduating? Then, the rest of the gang follow in the years afterwards.

Have Ethan and Jeremy decided where they're going to go for college?
