The boys I personally write about tend to be Caucasian by default, just as a matter of unthinking habit, because I myself am also a white male.  However, I frequently write about Latino/Hispanic boys, as well, and I would also love to see (and write) more stories about Middle Eastern and South Asian boys, as well! Also, here while back, I read this one story that I absolutely loved, that was set in China with a 13yo boy getting spanked... :)

When the boy in question does happen to be lean/fit, I do indeed want him to have a bit of "heft" to his bottom, regardless! :D Otherwise, what's the fun of a spanking, if there's no "butt meat" to whack? One of my favorite ages to write about is thirteen, specifically, as opposed to both preteens and ages 14-plus. Just because that particular age tends to conjure up, in my mind, certain mental images and associations that uniquely and powerfully capture my emotions and imagination! In light of that, I am actually working on a future MMSA submission that is more of an essay, musing at length about boys at age 13 -- though with a spank story incorporated into it, even if that part only occurred to me later in the writing process. But to elaborate further, since others expressed themselves in "list" form for this thread, then I guess I shall do the same...

  • Age Range: Strong preference for ages 11-13 because they've reached a certain level of mental/emotional maturity, along with lots of potential to be "precocious" in their inclinations, while still being so wonderfully youthful and boyish, at the same time! In particular, this part rings especially true for me...

Finally, if I want a really big audience, then various indoor and outdoor public settings are just what the doctor ordered!
  • Consent vs. Non-cons.: Depending on the story, as well as whatever mood and tone I am seeking to accomplish, it can range anywhere from "enthusiastically consensual" to "forcefully imposed,"
  • Spanker Motivation: Can be emphatically lecherous, strict and harsh, firm but loving, sadistic and mean-spirited, and various combinations of the previous
  • Spankee Demeanor: Fun and playful, humorous and good-natured, **** and flirtatious, warm and loving, and once again, various degrees of "sadistic."
  • Structure/Formality: For me, there's just about no such thing as too much protocol or procedure, and I have a massive kink/fetish for rituals and ceremonies, as well as power hierarchies and strictly-defined relationship structures!
  • Realism: Me, realistic? Contraire, mon freire! Remember exactly who you're talking to here...
  • Sexuality/Eroticism: Despite taking pride in my writing and overall "story-craft," ultimately my main goals is (and shall always be) to help the reader "get off," so to speak, regardless of gender. Therefore, at the very least, the story is almost always intended to be sexual and/or erotic "for the reader" themselves; whether that's also the case
  • Embarrassment/Humiliation: See everything Zyngaru said, of course, but it's also in my very pen-name itself: "Humbled Bare Boy" -- each word part of the unified whole, ya know?
  • Extremity: Anything I write is all but guaranteed to be at least a little bit "edgy," and I'm a huge fan of "pushing the envelope" and flouting all manner of culturally-ubiquitous taboos; so much so, in fact, that I almost take it as a point of pride if I can manage to leave a reader shocked and scandalized -- LOL!

Yes, Zyngaru, this is why you and I get along so very well together, am I right? All of the above elements, plus a whole lot more besides, uniting us even despite our obvious divergences! I am reminded of my longest story -- size @ 160K, written for the "Holidays 2021" collab -- and a major reason for that was my inability to resist going off on extended verbose tangents of prose, painstakingly exploring the psychological and emotional intricacies of various characters, especially the primary boy protagonist Brendan. Actually -- upon arriving at the story's, ummmm, climax -- I even spent an entire 1765 words JUST describing the "undressing process" itself, in most detail possible: Physical, visual, physiological, and certainly emotional! That 160K was, naturally, a ton of work to execute and finalize, but Pixote and Zyngaru's sweet and supportive praise made EVERY BIT of that worth my while...

The perfect boy personality, for me, is a juxtaposition of two ideals:

These elements from the second half of Adric's list, items 7-12 from above, are the ones that most resonated with me; certainly I like the boy to be not simply cooperative, but even more than that, submissive and obedient in his behavior and demeanor alike -- adopting a persona of devotion and adoration, almost even subservient, towards his father -- with an element of surrender to the highly unequal power dynamic. (Not just fathers, but also older brothers and uncles, or whoever else is administering punishments and asserting authority, really!) My aesthetic philosophy for boy spankee characters, both physically and emotionally, is best stated thus: "I don't want to be 'impressed' by him!" Neither in terms of "size" nor on the level of bravado and/or stoicism; squirm and jerk and cry, as much as necessary, yet without rebellion or disobedience, and there can be warm and loving hugs, cuddles, comfort, etc. afterwards! (Plus another kind of "happy ending," if I should happen to see fit...)

I think the main thing is realistic and unless depicting abuse(something , age appropriate, I think anything in the 8-16 group as its not easy to verbalise younger kis feelings in any inteesting way without making them seem older than they are. At 16 on, I dont know but while I realise Jack has done it Im not sure it isnt too old, the kids too big etc other than for school type swats/strokes. There are merits at most ages as spankees but I think the 10 to 13 group the best with their ability to be both innocent and far too knowlegeable for their own good at times! and their physical capability to take a spanking even if not stoically. Hair colour has never been an issue

I never just accepted a spanking.  I hated them and didn't take them very stoically.

I wanted to be hugged, but it never happened.  I can't remember anyone hugging me after a spanking.  I was spanked by both parents, grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Older cousins, friends parents, teachers, principals and coaches, lifeguards and a few times by strangers (neighbors).  No one ever hugged me afterward.  I was told I got what I deserved.  No compassion was ever showed.  That was being weak and adults didn't want to look weak in front of kids.

Personally, what I find most important is the spankee's cooperation. There is just no appeal for me in stories where the spanker has to wrestle a young offender into position, or forcefully yank down his pants. Instead, I find it much more enjoyable when the spankee accepts what is going to happen, undresses all by himself and takes up the position voluntarily. I also like it when the boy getting spanked takes his discipline like a man by staying as motionless as possible and keeping his vocal reactions to a minimum.

Furthermore, I think the ideal spanking takes a while to deliver. Especially an OTK hand spanking should take several minutes, in my opinion. But I am in no way opposed to implements being used. All in all, I would say that the ideal spanking in my mind is a highly ritualised affaire. It also helps if the spankee is fully naked for his punishment.

I have to think about this one.  It is extremely personal and opens up a vulnerability when answered honestly.  So I am typing it on my word program first and then copying it to the board once finished.

For me age is not the determining factor in and of itself.  What draws me to a story and to real life is the stage of development.  My window is small.  It is the stage between first sensing self awareness and being self aware.  It happens in pre-puberty.  When the child begins to disappear and the teenager appears.  In my day that would have been between 11-14 in most cases.  Of course there is both the early and late bloomers, that stretch the age range in some cases.  For late bloomers, as long as they still hold the boyhood appearance and attitude they can get to be older, but usually at some point even if puberty hasn’t happened they still become to old to be of interest.

It is the attitude and personality which grabs me.  I like stories that are about the shy, innocent boy.  He is curious and yet timid.  He wants to experience the erotic part of life but is scared to do it.  I love embarrassing situations.  The more humiliated the character can become the greater I enjoy the story.  Which means I have to have emotions in my story.  I need to know what the boy is thinking and feeling.  I need to know what the spanker is thinking and feeling. 

I don’t need the smack, smack, smack in a story as much as I need the feelings the boy is experiencing during the smack, smack, smack.  If I can also get what the spanker is feeling during the smack, smack, smack, so much the better for my interest in the story.

The boy's looks are not all that important to me.  I am going to imagine him as my mind takes over in the story anyway.  The author might describe the boy as five foot tall with  dark hair, dark eyes and slightly on the chubby side, and I will imagine him as four foot tall with red hair, green eyes and skinny.

What I can’t do is change a sixteen year old hairy boy into an eleven year old smooth boy in my imagination.  It just doesn’t work because the way the story is written for a sixteen year old has a different feel than it does for an eleven year old.

I prefer total nakedness during the spanking.  I prefer the boy to be embarrassed about being made to be naked.  I enjoy the vulnerability of being naked during a spanking.  Anyone could possibly see the boy naked.  If by chance someone does, then so much the better.

The setting isn’t so much a concern for me.  Home, school, woods, store and etc.  It is how it happens that is important to me.  I prefer real life situations, or at least something I can feel like it is real.  That increases the humiliation factor.  I am okay with consensual play spankings.  Boys using spanking as a penalty for losing at a game and etc.

The spanking cannot be brutal.  This is a carryover from my own childhood.  I detest stories using a cane, whip, strop, hose, and etc.  That is too much like torture for my taste.  I know on naval vessels boys were whipped.  I know slave boys were whipped.  I know boys in British schools were caned.  I know fathers have beaten their sons.  I don’t need to read stories about it though.

Behavior.  I can’t stand brats, whiny boys, bullies or arrogant boys.  If the story is about them winning the day, I don’t want to read it.  If the story is about them getting what’s coming to them and they repent, then I could enjoy the story. 

My favorite character is going to be a pre-pubescent boy who is slim, short, cute, funny, shy, energetic, affectionate, and naked.  Then you embarrass the daylights out of him, and I will roll on the floor enjoying every minute of it.

For me the most important thing is that it seems real, that it's described in a way that I can immerse myself in the story. I don't need a thorough physical description of the characters. Just a basic indication of what he looks like is fine, and my imagination will provide the rest. It's important that the character seems an individual, and not just a spanking "punch bag". The relationship between the characters or even the setting can do a lot to make it seem real, if it's well described. The psychological aspect is also important for me. How the character perceives and is affected by the spanking.

I realize that what I say is vague, but there's really not a magic shortcut. It just has to be good.

Then there's the hot factor. I prefer bare to not bare and some stories have an intense "spanky" feel that I enjoy.

The age of the spanked is not a determining factor for me. 12 or 13 is a good age, but I enjoy any age if it's well done.

Adult spankees I don't enjoy so much, although in some cases I can enjoy it if the story is good.  I don't enjoy stories about consensual spankings as much as about real punishment spankings.

Normally I prefer domestic to school, because the relationship between spanker and spankee can be too distant in school spankings, and the punishment too businesslike and impersonal. I prefer a more personal relationship.

There's not a certain look that appeals to me most - I love Hispanics, with their black hair, dark eyes, and rich skin tone, but I also like other ethnic groups, and I like blonds, and gingers, as much as brown hair, other shades of red, or plain black.  There are a few things I don't like (mostly skin tones that are either glossy or 'matte' for lack of a better term), and i prefer lean, but still not so skinny as to not have a rear.

What really makes a difference to me is size/age.  With younger kids, you know they're going to break down and cry when they're getting spanked.  With older 'boys' like Liam or Zeke, neither of them is a full grown adult yet, but both of them are filling out and getting hairy.

I can't tell you why certain things push my buttons, and while other things that are very similar can ruin my enjoyment.  What I can tell you is that I love a boy who's just over 5' - one who is approaching or in early adolescence.  One whose body is a mystery, and one who's still adjusting to it and probably pretty shy.  Also one who is growing, and probably proud of what he sees as his new maturity, and wants to 'take it like a man', but honestly isn't sure he'll be able to.

When it comes to real life, I love boys this age - young enough to still act like boys, but old enough that they have some real maturity, and you can often talk to them in ways you can't talk to younger boys, who just don't have the depth of experience yet.  If you approach it right, these boys love to learn and enjoy listening to what you have to say.  Yet they also have their own experiences, and they have their own opinions, which are often well-formed and sometimes surprising. 

A story doesn't have to be about someone in this group to catch my interest, but I certainly do find these boys to be a plus.
