What kind of activities do they do at that age? Go trekking? Camping?

That is good.  Usually family make the best friends, especially when you are younger.

He sure sounds like he is into so many extra activities, I don't see how he can get everything done.

But good for him that he has a full life.

... and more than six years later, Curtis is 14 and in eighth grade.

Curtis plays soccer for the Youth Association in the fall, and plays on the school team in second semester.

Curtis is also a.. Scout BSA now.  He's hoping to achieve his Star rank before summer starts.

He's also taking speech/drama like many of his brothers did.

Curtis has a good group of friends.  For one thing, Ryder, Ollie, and Paden are all about the same age as him, so his best friends are family.

I tried Artemis Fowl too and, like you, it didn't grab me and I gave up soon. I did not find the main character, a boy who is also a criminal mastermind in a fantasy world with fairies, likable or interesting, and the same could be said of the plot. I like YA fantasy, but this was not my thing.

I saw previews for a new one coming out this summer.  "Artemis Fowl."  Looks like something I would be interested in.

I remember trying Artemis Fowl, but I never got into it.  I don't recall disliking it, it just didn't catch my interest enough, and I never went back to it.  I think it came out in the early 2000s, and I know a lot of the boys read it - I think everyone from Tommy to Bryce were big into it at one time or another.

I have seen previews of the movie, it looks like it could be interesting, and I'm sure we'll go see it.

then a chocolate/chocolate fudge cake (and he had chocolate ice cream with it).

We're all going to see The Kid Who Would be King.

Triple Chocolate.  A boy after my own heart.  I'll sit here and drool.  I can't eat chocolate anymore.  Caffeine.  They haven't made caffeine free chocolate yet.

My sister is taking her grandson to see "The Kid Who Would Be King" this weekend.  I'll see it when it comes to DVD.

Just wanted to mention that Curtis is now 8, and he's very excited.

We did have his birthday dinner last night, with grilled polish sausage, fried potatoes, slow cooked green beans, grilled vegetable medley, and biscuits, then a chocolate/chocolate fudge cake (and he had chocolate ice cream with it). Liam got to give his birthday spanks.

We're saving the actual party for this weekend.  Colt's birthday is next week, and we're going to Grapevine Mills for double parties, with everyone eating at the Rainforest Cafe.  We're all going to see The Kid Who Would be King, then Curtis wants to Build-A-Bear and do the Lego Discovery Zone. He's taking the grands and a few of his best friends with us (David Franklin, Bo and Royce Tidwell, Kieth and Cody King, Ed Rawlings,  and Sean and Colin McCleod), so it won't be a huge crowd (compared to some I have), but it will still keep us chaperones busy.

But Dad HAS taken into account that we already have 32 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and we definitely don't want the boys to peak too early.

Oh, the cruelty! Dad hasn't taken into account that three days, in subjective child-time, is ages!

"No."

"PLEASE?"

"No, Curtis."

"Just one?"

"What's the rule, Curtis?"

"Daddy!"

"What's.  the.  rule?"

"No Christmas videos until after Thanksgiving."

"Okay, then.  That's just three days now, so i think you can survive."
