With help from Zyngaru, the BOTD Prompts Thread  (#1) has taken on a festive appearance.

Christmas themed pictures are now available!

As regards the suggestion that links to the BOTD or thread where a particular picture was employed be maintained:

I can reply to this thought from my perspective: I look at this suggestion as one that might be “interesting” if it were employed, but honestly, after looking at the links a few times, primarily out of curiosity, I do not think it is something I would consistently use. In short, the “cost” (in terms of human labor needed to do this, and maintain it, since a pic may be used by several writers, not merely one) versus “benefit” (essentially, in my case, curiosity to see how a particular picture may have been used).

I do not really think I would be using these links frequently enough to justify the large cost of labor. The problem of the labor is expanded when I add in the multiple times where pictures are claimed but not used; a lot of time and energy might be put forth in such cases, in order to insure this gap is legitimate and not a lapse in the data. Now, this view is of course, only mine, but there you have it.

I use names because it seemed to really be popular with the email recipients.  I think it made the boys more relatable....
Relatable, that was the word I was trying think of when I wrote that posting. Sometimes the right word can elude you.

They are a sticky in the BOTD section.
Forgot to mention before that I think making it a sticky thread is a very good idea. The Picture Parades on the old forum did get pushed down, especially after a rash of birthdays.

Instead of numbers, I have started giving the boys names.  That seems to be rather popular.  You don't have to keep the boy's name if you don't want.  Then names seem to be a better way of identifying than numbers.
Would it be possible to use both names and numbers?
I can understand a preference for names but it is not impossible that you might run out of names, or at least have problems when it comes to some of the letters of the alphabet, and it might be might pictures with larger groups more difficult to refer to.

There is another reason why using names AND numbers would be good idea.
Garret, Landon, and Martin are taken as well.
From which of batch of pictures do Garret, Landon and Martin come? At the moment there are only two but it will be more difficult as the number of picture batches increases.

There is another suggestion I would make. When a picture is used it add a link or reference by it to BOTD thread or threads which uses it. There were a number of times when looking at the picture parades on the old forum when I saw messages about a picture being claimed by could find the BOTD thread(s) where it had been used.

(I hope this all makes to someone other than me)

Zac,

It all makes sense.

To start with your last comment.  Sometimes a person will claim a boy and then for whatever reason never use him.  It actually happens a lot.  That might explain why you couldn't find BOTDs for some of the claimed boys.  Also, sometimes, with the author's permission, I will read the scenario and realize I have a better picture in my files and we will change it out. Can I go back and add links under the pictures?  I could.  It is something to consider but it is a bit of work.  If I am honest I will say I am not sure it is something I want to take on but it is a reasonable request.  I will let others give comment.

Will I run out of names or skip more difficult letters of the alphabet?  I am sure I will.  You will note in an upcoming BOTD that we will have a boy named "Umber."  He came from the email list and I was already getting desperate for "U" names.  What I am doing now is just skipping the difficult letter.  In a series run, I also try to keep names to the same number of letters.  (You will note that all of the ones in the first batch are 4 or 5 letters. - They were leftovers from the emailed boys.  The new batch that starts with "Andrew" all have six letters in the names.)  This will help me not repeat some names.  The very first batch of email boys had names based on (in order of date in office) of USA Presidents.  I then tried to move to British PMs starting with 1900 but soon decided to go with a more structured system.

I use names because it seemed to really be popular with the email recipients.  I think it made the boys more relatable.  The main suggestion seems to be that I add numbers to the names.  I don't see this as a problem.  So, sure, I can give each picture a name and a number.  I will go back and edit the already posted boys to show this.

I would like to know if anyone has further comments or questions and I would also like to know if everyone is finding the pictures.  They are a sticky in the BOTD section.

The first thread is now available in the BOTD section.

I can move them to here.  Yes, the BOTD section would work well as it too is limited to members only.  I will make the thread sticky and, if a new thread of pics is posted, I will unsticky one and let the other hang at the top.

I will start with the unclaimed boys from the emails.

I will try to get some pics up in a day or two.

One good thing about moving the posting to here is that the pics will already be hosted.

Board related things should be kept within the board and not be transferred to email.

I was thinking about the prompts this morning, and was going to make a suggestion that a thread be started in the BOTD forum.  On the old board, there was the pictures forum, but here it is the celebrations forum, so BOTD prompts won't fit there.  But it makes sense to me to put the prompts with the BOTDs.  What do others think?

Since we have moved to Jack's House I have been posting the BOTD picture prompts via email.  I realize some of you may be left out as I do not have all email addresses.

If you have not been receiving these pictures and would like to then please PM me with the email address you would wish to use.

Please do not post email addresses in replies - use PM.
